The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Hon Sule Salifu, has cut the sod for commencement of work to give the Tamale Youth Home a facelift. The facility has not witnessed any major rehabilitation since its construction during the colonel era several decades ago.

Mr. Sule Salifu in a media interview after a brief sod-cutting ceremony on Monday (October 23, 2023) disclosed an amount of four hundred thousand (GHS400,000) is earmarked for the renovation works.

“My understanding is that, this building was put up by the colonel government and my sources indicate that between 1908-09 that this building was put up and that was where the Governor was staying.”

The Tamale Mayor noted the foreign occupants were later relocated and the facility was converted into a canteen or Guest house.

“…So you can imagine the state of the building and that is why the government’s strategy or intention to support the growth of the youth must be commended and we’re so happy that President Akufo-Addo has listened to our cry” he stated.

For his part, Mr. Abdul Rahaman Abdulai, an engineer of Cheyori Company Limited, the firm contracted to work on the facility assured that the project within stipulated period of time given for the work to be done.

He said the work involved is not the type that should be delayed and reiterated their readiness and commitment to finish on time.

“So far as the place has been handed over to us today, we will move to site and the work will start by next week” he said.

The project scope comprises the construction of new WASH facilities, replacement of the entire roofing of the building and repainting of the entire facility within three months.
