Suspect Isaac Nana Nartey caught by Cobra Security Services at Kasoa New Market at the weekend

A 16-year-old boy, Isaac Nana Nartey, who lives at Ashalaja in the Ga South Municipality, and dressed like a girl, was chased Saturday dawn and arrested by a Security officer, Mr. Kojo Mensah, of Cobra Security services at the Kasoa New Market.

Speaking to the media on the issue, Mr. Mensah said the young boy was spotted near one of the gates of the new market and was arrested at around 1:55am after a hot chase.

According to the security officer, the boy was suspected because his behaviour was strange as he dressed as a girl and was loitering at the market at that odd hour.

The Security Officer noted that after he arrested suspect Isaac, upon interrogating the him, the young man said this was the first time that he was coming to the market and that he did not have any aim of stealing or doing any evil.

In an interview with the media, Isaac, the suspect, said he is a first year student of Suhum SHS/Technical School.

He could not however explain why he dressed like a girl.

When the media spoke to the Founder of the Kasoa New Market Retailers Association, Alhaji Haroun Tettey Mensah, he narrated how the security engaged at the Kasoa new market arrested the suspect at the odd hour as already indicated.

He continued that the market leadership was considering if they would hand-over the strange suspect to the police later.

Alhaji Haroun lamented that thieves have been disturbing traders at the market always, to the extent that some bad people even defecate at the selling places of the traders, making trading activities very difficult and uncomfortable.

He said it is very strange that the suspect joined vehicle in the night and come to the market in a female outfit.

Alhaji Haroun, also a former Assembly Member of Kasoa Electoral Area, continued that they suspect that the young “boy-girl” is a member of a team that has been stealing and frightening traders at the market in the night.

He has therefore advised the traders to leave the market early on market days, to avoid attacks from bad people.

Alhaji Haroun said as Christmas approaches they have put security measures in place to ensure that criminal activities are curtailed.

He called on the traders to support the security and cooperate for their actions to succeed.

Also as the General Secretary of the market, Alhaji Haroun said all those boys, girls and women who illegally occupy and sleep in shops in the market would be ejected with immediate effect because he has asked them to leave there place even though they have remained adamant.

He extended appreciation to the MCE of Awutu- Senya East, Ms. Anita, MP of the area Mrs Mavis Hawa Koomson, and the Kasoa Police commander, for their various supports in ensuring that Kasoa new market is well protected by the Cobra Security Services.

Modus operandi

Touching on the “boy-girl” Isaac’s modus operandi, Alhaji Haroun said it is very difficult to comprehend why a boy could dress like a girl and come to the market in the night to be chased and arrested.

He said what is even strange is that the young “boy-girl” behaves normally and speaks clearly, meaning he is a sane person, suspecting that the suspect works with a criminal gang.

Alhaji Haroun said some of the criminals operate at the market with motor- bikes for which he noted the police have been helping to crackdown; and would continue to fight until they stop.

He said all the girls and boys who illegally sleep in their shops would be removed and stooped from the practice.
