The Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) has awarded some individual staff members for their hard work, dedication and commitment to duty for the year 2023. Similarly, the Internal Audit Unit was adjudged the Best Department for the year under review.

This is the second edition of the awards and dinner session organized by the coordinating council to recognize the hard work of the civil and public servants working in the northern region with the maiden edition held in 2022.  

The Chief Director of the NRCC, Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku was adjudged the Most Professional/Discipline Officer of the year 2023.

The other awardees were: Best Worker Senior Staff Category; Mr. Mohammed Issahaku from the Records Management Unit, Best Worker Junior Staff Category; Madam Lantana Inusah, Estate Unit, Best Worker Auxiliary grade; Iddrisu Abdul-Karim, Labourer Unit and the Internal Audit unit adjudged Best Unit of the year.

The Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, in his remarks during the ceremony held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, commended the awardees on behalf of the government for their outstanding contributions to the success of the coordinating council for the year review.

“Let me once again say a very big ‘thank you’ to all of you and urge you to keep the good works that would make us distinct from other departments in the northern region” he said.

The Minister said he has enjoyed working with the gallant men and women since his appointment some three years ago. He added, “Let me also say that, two days ago, I celebrated my 40th year working for God and my country. They say that life begins at 40 so I am starting my working life.”

Mr. Shani recounted his early public service working life when he was supervising about 25 workers, adding today, “I am lucky and honored to be superintending over a whole region and has an indoor working population of 138 staff both skilled and unskilled and also superintending over 21 departments under the regional coordinating council”.

For his part, the Chief Director, Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku, in his welcome address said the awards are in recognition of the diverse contributions the gallant men and women continuous for efficient and effective function of the NRCC.

He asserted the regional administration is special body giving the mandate to coordinate all government activities in the region and to ensure that all government projects and programs fall in line and things are delivered as expected.

“And if you have that responsibility, it means that you’re special in the sense that, a lot is expected of you and that is why we have continuously said that we would never be satisfied until we’re able to deliver the best” he stressed.

Alhaji Issahaku also recognized the immense role various state and non-state agencies and departments play in the development and growth of the region, emphasising it is when they work that the NRCC is able to coordinate.

Meanwhile, the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Sule Salifu, Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Ahmed Yakubu were among other dignitaries present at the event.
