As the excitement builds for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023, the 24 participating teams have completed the submission of their provisional squads, in adherence to the tournament’s regulations.
By the guidelines, each Participating Member Association (PMA) that qualified for the final tournament was required to submit a provisional list, consisting of no more than 55 players, by the deadline of December 14, 2023. Notably, this marks an expansion from previous tournaments, allowing greater flexibility for the teams.
Following a decision by the CAF Organising Committee, the PMAs are now permitted a final squad of 27 players, four more than the traditional 23-player limit. Importantly, the registration of the additional four players on the final list is optional, providing teams with strategic flexibility.
However, in case a team decides to submit a final squad ranging from 24 to 27 players, only 23 of them will be eligible for selection in each match during the tournament. This introduces an intriguing dynamic for coaches, who must carefully consider their squad composition.
Teams have until January 3, 2023, to finalize their squads for the tournament, precisely ten days before the opening match. This extended deadline allows for meticulous planning and adjustments, contributing to the overall competitiveness of the event.
Meanwhile, a player in the final squad can only be replaced in the event of a serious injury, provided that the replacement is officially approved by the CAF Medical Committee at least 24 hours before the team’s first match.
The much-anticipated TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024. The Ivorian cities of Abidjan, Bouake, Korhogo, San Pedro, and Yamoussoukro are set to host the thrilling tournament, promising a showcase of top-tier African football talent.
