The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Agona East Constituency is in disarray following an illegal election that was held without the approval of the party’s National election Directorate.

The constituency election was supposed to take place on the 22nd October, 2022 but it was called off because of ballot irregularities and problematic voting album.

Consequently, a directive was given by NDC head office in Accra that all the identified problems should be rectified and the election be held on 29th October.

Suddenly, on 25th October, an unofficial communique was issued on some NDC platforms in central Region that the election was taking place on Wednesday 26th October 2022.

Upon hearing this news, three concerned NDC members in Agona Duakwa filed a writ for an interlocutory injunction and served the electoral commission and the Agona East NDC Director of Elections, Kwaku Arko Yeboah.

However, the High Court Belief was beaten and the injunction documents torn by Kwaku Arko Yeboah when he served the defendant.

Messrs Oscar Samuel Mensah,Shawky Salisu and Malik Iddrisu all of Agona Duakwa are the plaintiffs in the case.

The defendants are the Electoral Commission (EC) Director Election in Agona East and NDC Director of Elections East Kwaku Arko Yeboah.

Meanwhile, when THE CUSTODIAN contacted NDC Deputy Director of Elections, Mr. Daniel Amartey Mensah, he stated that the party did not sanctioned any election in Agona East and therefore any election held will be null and void.

Background

Regional elections will come off on 12th November and National Elections on the 17th December 2022 to elect regional and national executives to steer the affairs of the party for 2024 general election and for the next for years.
