Alhaji Alidu Abdul Rahaman, the aide of former Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Sa-eed, has filed to contest the upcoming Parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party in the Tamale North constituency.
The young enthusiastic politician after submitting his nominations to the constituency elections committee assured delegates that he will work hard to win the seat and uplift the image of the constituency on the map.
He also took a swipe at the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Alhassan Suhuyini, stating the lawmaker has failed to live up to the expectations of the constituents.
“I stand a good chance of winning the primaries because I have done a lot in the constituency even without having the intention of contesting for the constituency. I just conceived the intention not too long ago but this was as a result of the unique research that I did and realize that the constituency can be won, we can take the constituency from Hon Suhuyini because the constituents are not happy with him.”
He emphasized that the NDC MP has not done anything to improve the growth and development of the people and further accused him of taking credit for projects being done by the Akufo-Addo led NPP government in the constituency.
Mr. Alidu Abdul Rahaman said his campaign christened as “the youth project” seeks to bring prosperity to the young men and women in the area, adding he will tackle education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurial skills training among several other policy initiatives to ameliorate the predicament of the people.
“…There are a lot of developmental challenges in the constituency and that is exactly what we stand to address for the people.”
Hundreds of NPP supporters across the constituency, including polling station executives, women groups, coordinators and elders of the party turned out in massively to support the aspirant.
Meanwhile, a Technical Advisor at the Office of the Vice President, Dr KB Mahama, who was part of the delegation that accompanied the aspirant to submit the forms in a separate interview said it was inspiring and encouraging seeing the youth actively participating in politics and putting themselves forward for leadership positions in the country.
“It is important that adequately represent the aspirations and hopes of the people of Tamale North and if you look at all those filing, I have absolute confidence in Abre since childhood and since our school days – he was an active participant in TESCON affairs. Even as aide to the former Northern Regional Minister, we saw the role he played to ensure that we brought finality to most of the challenges we had in Dagbon” he stated.
