Anyaa Sowutuom MCE, Mohammed Bashiru Kamara brainstorming with stakeholders of basic schools

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Anyaa Sowutuom Municipal Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Bashiru Kamara has met with all heads and chairpersons of the Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) from all public basic schools within the municipality to brainstorm on the performance of the schools.

The meeting, which took place last Thursday, assessed the trend analysis on how the basic schools are performing.

The meeting was also for the heads and the PTA chairpersons to table the challenges facing the schools and recommend possible ways of addressing them.

Present at the meeting were the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), John Owusu Donkor; the Municipal Education Director, Cynthia Winnifred Gbadago and some heads of department.

According to the MCE, the meeting has come about as a follow-up to his visit to the schools during ‘my first day at school’ exercise to help brainstorm on challenges with the educational sector under his municipality.

He added that this type of meeting would be periodic.

The heads and PTA Chairpersons highlighted on challenges such as infrastructure, parents’ refusal to purchase text books, unwillingness of pupils to learn, the use of mobile phones, indiscipline amongst students, security, policy formulation where students are not motivated enough, playing of football on the school compounds amongst others.

The MCE after listening to these challenges assured all the heads and the PTA chairpersons that the education directorate will schedule MCE’s engagement with all parents through PTA meetings so that the assembly can talk to parents on attitudinal change improve their wards education.

Stakeholders

Hon. Bashiru assured participants that appropriate action will be taken.

He also tasked the social welfare to embark on a mission of parental discipline and responsibility.

All head where then tasked to embark on a ‘drop and read’ policy where pupils have early morning reading section.

The Municipal Director of Education, Cynthia Winnifred Gbadago thanked all heads and PTA Chairpersons for coming and assured them of the Directorate’s unflinching support.

She was however hopeful that Ga Central will be first when it comes to grading at the national level.

Hon. Mohammed Bashiru Kamara also thanked all heads and PTA Chairpersons for attending the meeting and assured them that immediate action will be taken on every issue raised.
