The Minister of Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has imposed a curfew on eleven communities in the Gushegu municipality of the Northern Region amid recent clashes in the town.
The affected villages include Paboni, Yidaani, Kukpor, Busun No. 1, Busun No. 2, Nagnani, and Nayagile. The remaining communities are Donbin, Kolik, Tinyongu and Klokpan.
The Interior Minister in a statement dated Wednesday, April 15, 2026, noted that the curfew starts with immediate effect from 6: 00 pm to 6: 00 am.
The government has further urged the Chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.
Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons from the above communities in the Gushegu District from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive objects or weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
In a related development, the Inspector General of Police has deployed a special team of operational officers and armoured vehicles to Gushegu and Karaga municipalities to beef up security.
The team will work with officers of the Northern Regional Police Command to intensify patrols and enhance security in the towns and surrounding communities.
