The traditional leadership of the Anyigbe Clan in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region has destooled Togbe Lugu Ahiaku VI, known in private life as Mathias Kwame Ahiagba, from his position as sub-chief of Afevime.
The Anyigbe Clan, led by the Divisional Chief of Afegame, Togbe Abordor VIII, forms part of the larger Agave Traditional Area. Togbe Lugu Ahiaku VI was originally enstooled on March 31, 1978, but his reign officially came to an end on April 18, 2026, following a traditional ceremony held at Lakpo.
According to a statement issued by the Anyigbe clan leadership, the decision to destool Togbe Lugu Ahiaku VI was based on several allegations of misconduct and disregard for established traditional authority.
Key among the concerns was his reported change of stool name from Togbe Lugu Ahiaku VI to Torgbe Lugu Awadali IV—an ancestral name said to be no longer in use within the clan. This move was viewed as a breach of customary norms.

Additionally, he has been accused of fraudulently registering lands belonging to the Anyigbe Clan in his personal name without the knowledge or approval of the traditional leadership. The statement further alleged that some clan lands were also registered in the names of other individuals, including one Togbe Sakpaku, with his involvement.
This was published in the Daily Graphic on Wednesday, 25th February, 2026 with title: PUBLIC NOTICE IN RESPECT OF ANYIGBE CLAN LAND” where Togbe Lugu Ahiagbe claimed to be the sole grantor of the Anyigbe Clan lands
The leadership also cited his decision to take legal action against his Divisional Chief, fellow sub-chiefs, and other respected members of the clan over land ownership disputes, describing it as a violation of customary structures. Efforts to engage him on these matters reportedly proved unsuccessful, as he declined multiple invitations to appear before the Anyigbe traditional leadership.
Following these developments, the Divisional Chief, sub-chiefs, queen mothers, and elders of the Anyigbe Clan unanimously agreed to his destoolment with immediate effect.
The statement concluded that he is no longer to be recognized by his stool name but should revert to his private identity as Mr. Matthias Kwame Ahiagba.
The statement was jointly signed by Togbe Abordor VIII and other senior traditional authorities of the Anyigbe Clan.
