The Rapid Bus Transit Services also known as Ayalolo on Monday, October 10, 2022, formally began operations in the greater Tamale metropolitan area in the northern region.

The move is engineered by the government to improve intra-city transportation services in the country’s third largest city and the fastest growing city in the West African sub-region.

The intervention has become critical in addressing issues of road safety in the transport sector coupled with the exorbitant transport fares commuters are paying at this difficult time.

The Northern Regional Coordinator of Ayalolo, Mr. Sanusi Akim Charles Kayode in a media assured the company will do its best to deliver quality service to meet the needs of the people, indicating, “All we need is the cooperation of the people.”

He noted the idea of the initiative is to subsidize the cost of transportation to mitigate the financial challenges of the populace.

A piloted exercise would be carried out with members of the public enjoying free ride from Wednesday to Friday, October, 14 before the start of commercial services thereafter.

The pickup points will be beneath the Tamale interchange to Tamale Technical University campus, Point 7 to Vittin and Anbariya Senior High School, PK Gombila Pharmacy to Savelugu, Quality First Shopping Center to UDS Tamale campus and Aboabo Commercial Bank branch to Nyankpala.

The Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, after commissioning the buses said the government is committed to improving the transportation sector of the economy.

He noted the initiative will become the safest alternative for commuters and this would bring some sanity on the major roads in the metropolis where tricycles operations have flooded everywhere.

“…We want people to become very conversant with the buses, very comfortable to ride in and safety wise, I think it is the better alternative to any other system of transport that would be running in the metropolis. I entreat people to patronize the buses so that we can use that as a yardstick to add more buses to the system” the Minster added.
