Flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made a compelling case for his election as the next President of Ghana, firing up party supporters to campaign vigorously for victory in the 2024 general election.
Dr. Bawumia who expressed optimism about winning the December 7, 2024 polls, told the party faithful that the NPP government in the last seven years had performed better than the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that was in power for eight years and that it was possible to ‘break the 8.’
NPP has set an ambitious target of becoming the first political party under the fourth republic to retain power beyond eight years.
Addressing a mammoth crowd in Kwahu Mpraeso last Saturday, after a special Easter health walk, the Vice President urged the party members to embark on aggressive campaign strategies of moving from house-to-house, door-to-door and window-to-window to preach NPP government’s achievements to the electorate, saying that is the surest way of retaining power.
Thousands of NPP supporters together with their flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia and the National Executive flooded the principal streets of Bepong to Mpraeso in the Kwahu enclave to embark on a unity walk as part of the Kwahu Easter celebrations over the weekend.
The Mega Unity walk organized by NPP, was on the theme- “Let’s Arise and Build Ghana Together Through Unity Walk”.
It was a joyous moment for the NPP members to walk together to rekindle the spirit of the party ahead of the 2024 general election.
Dr. Bawumia was joined by former presidential aspirants, Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto and Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, National Chairman Stephen Ntim General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, National Women’s Organiser Kate Gyamfua and National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye aka Nana B as well as the 33 Parliamentary candidates in the region.
Bold solutions
The NPP flagbearer told the gathering that a vote for him is a vote for bold solutions, but a vote for his main opponent is a vote for old solutions.
“Somebody has been President before, and the question is: what did he do as President to address the problems of the country? He had no solutions and we all saw how he performed, leading to his exit from office. And now he says Ghanaians should bring him back?
“I have not been President before. I have only been a Vice President and as Vice President, I can point to a number of generational issues I have helped to resolve. By the grace of God, if you give me the opportunity, I will do more as President and resolve many issues.
“A vote for me is a vote for bold solutions. And a vote for my opponent is a vote for old solutions. I am coming with new ideas and bold solutions to move our country forward,” said the Vice President, adding “As I have said, I am coming with a new tax system which will bring a flat tax rate and also grant tax amnesty to businesses and individuals.”
NPP performed better
Dr. Bawumia pointed out that NPP government in seven years, has performed better than the NDC administration in eight years.
The areas NPP has performed better, according to him, include job creation, agricultural growth, industrial growth, roads, railways, airports, trade balance, gross international reserves, hospitals, and schools, among others.
Dr Bawumia said about one million young Ghanaians will be trained in coding and software applications under his Presidency.
“The future is technology, and the youth of this country are important to drive what we want to do in technological advancement. That is why I have said we will train about 1 million young Ghanaians in coding and software applications under my Presidency.
