The Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, has presented a 4×4 pickup on behalf of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to the Savelugu Municipal Police Command. This follows an appeal made by Yoo Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani V, paramount of Chief Savelugu to the government to enable the police carry out their duties especially patrols at night.
In his remarks during a courtesy call of the Vice President last Monday, October 3, 2022, the Yoo Naa lamented a means of transport was a major bottleneck affecting efficient and effective policing in the area.
He disclosed the Savelugu police have additional responsibility to maintain law and order in the newly created Nanton district which was originally part of the Savelugu municipality.
“So I am happy the Minister for Interior is in our midst; you should equip our security agencies with the logistics that they need so that they would be able to work effectively. I also want to once again, Your Excellency, remind you about our security service here – something I told you before and I think this should be my last time; Nanton still rely on the Savelugu municipal police but unfortunately they don’t have a means of transport. I appeal to you that before the end of this week, you can provide them [police] a pickup to enable their work.
“Also I want to touch on the security of the northern region. Unfortunately for us in the north, conflicts are doted here and there and it is counter-productive, we need to see to it that all those conflicts are resolved. They have an effect on the communities that are affected so we cannot sit down unconcern when one area develops and the other is not developing” the Yoo Naa bemoaned.
In his response, the Vice President assured the Chief that a pickup will be released the next day Tuesday to support the operations of the police administration in the area.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia true to his word fulfilled the pledged made the Chief with the presentation of a brand new pickup presented on his behalf on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the Yoo Naa Palace for onward presentation to the police command.
