Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to approach the party’s constituency elections with unity, discipline and a strong commitment to the growth of the party.
In a message directed to all aspirants contesting in constituency elections across the country, the 2028 flagbearer of the NPP extended his best wishes to candidates who have offered themselves for leadership roles within the party.
He praised their willingness to serve the NPP and contribute to Ghana’s development, describing their participation as a reflection of the party’s democratic values and enduring strength.
“To all candidates in our constituency elections across the country, I extend my warmest wishes as you offer yourselves to serve our great New Patriotic Party and the people of Ghana,” Dr Bawumia said.
He noted that the decision by party members to contest for various positions demonstrates commitment to the NPP’s ideals and the desire to contribute meaningfully to the party’s future.
According to the former Vice President, internal elections are an important part of strengthening the party’s structures and preparing it for future responsibilities.
He encouraged all contestants and supporters to remember that the elections are an internal exercise and should not create divisions among members.
Dr Bawumia stressed that regardless of the outcome of the elections, all party members remain part of one family united by a common goal.
“Let us remember that, regardless of the outcomes, we remain members of one family with a shared commitment to rebuilding and advancing our party and our beloved nation,” he stated.
The former presidential candidate urged NPP members nationwide to actively participate in the elections while maintaining peace and respect for the democratic process.
He appealed to party supporters to demonstrate the values of discipline, solidarity and responsible participation, which he said have always been central to the NPP’s political tradition.
“To all members of the New Patriotic Party, I encourage you to participate actively, peacefully, and responsibly in this important exercise,” he said.
Dr Bawumia further encouraged members to accept the results of the elections and support those who emerge victorious. He explained that unity after the polls would be crucial for the party as it prepares to face future political challenges.
“When the elections are concluded, let us rally behind those elected and work together with renewed purpose and determination,” he added.
The NPP constituency elections form part of the party’s internal reorganisation efforts aimed at strengthening its grassroots structures and ensuring effective leadership at the local level.
Constituency executives play a key role in mobilising party supporters, coordinating activities and supporting the implementation of the party’s agenda within communities.
Dr Bawumia believes that a successful and peaceful election process will help position the party for future tasks while reinforcing the confidence of members in the NPP’s democratic principles.
“May these elections strengthen our unity and position our party for the greater tasks ahead,” he said.
He also offered prayers for peaceful and successful elections across all constituencies and wished every aspirant success in their respective contests.
The former Vice President’s message comes at a time when the NPP is focused on rebuilding and reorganising its structures following its performance in the 2024 general elections.
Party leaders have repeatedly emphasised the need for unity, grassroots engagement and effective organisation as the NPP seeks to regain momentum and prepare for future elections.
Dr Bawumia concluded his message by calling for God’s blessings on Ghana and the New Patriotic Party.
“God bless our homeland Ghana, and God bless the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom),” he said.
His remarks highlight the importance of peaceful internal democracy and collective responsibility as the party continues efforts to strengthen its foundation and move forward.
