The late Hajia Mariama Bawumia

The 3rd day Islamic prayers (Adua) for the late Hajia Mariama Bawumia, mother of Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is set for tomorrow Thursday, 16 September, 2021, at Kperiga in Walewale in the North East Region.

This was announced by family elders after the latter was laid to rest peacefully.

Hajia Mariama passed last Monday (13 September, 2021) in Accra where she was receiving medical care for days.

Hundreds of mourners from all walks of life across the country stormed Walewale in the North East Region to commiserate with the bereaved family.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharabutu led a powerful Islamic prayer (Janaza) before the interment was done in their family house at Kperiga.

The late Mariama hails from Kpasenkpe in the West Mamprusi municipality and was one of the first females from the north to have gained admission to the prestigious Wesley Girls High School in the Central Region.

Hajia Mariama married to the late Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, a teacher, lawyer and a politician. He was a Founding Member of the Northern People’s Party.
