The Chief of Gomoa Nkwantanan of Gomoa East, in the Central Region, Nana Obiri Kafo Kweku Gyebu III, has called on the Government to quickly impress upon the Ghana Education Service to ensure that classrooms are expanded and new ones also put up for pupils of Gomoa Nkwantanan D/A Primary and Junior High School (JHS).

Nana Gyebu stated this when he and his Queen mother, elders and the media paid a familiarization tour to the School to interact with the School Authorities to discuss the development issues and their welfare recently.

According to the Chief, it is so sad that the classrooms are so congested that from Primary to JHS over 177 pupils are found in one classroom in some cases.

Nana Gyebu said he also observed that the pupils were not comfortable due to the intense heat as a result of the congestion.

He said he and his elders are ever ready to provide vast lands to the government to expand the classrooms and even build new classrooms for the children because they have lands in abundance to be used for that purpose.

Nana Gyebu said more class rooms should be provided as early as possible for at least only 45 pupils to occupy one classroom.

Nkwantanan JHS students crowded in a makeshift classroom.

He also called on NGOs and philanthropists to also come on board to provide more classrooms for the pupils.

Nana Gyebu, who spoke to the pupils, advised them to learn hard, obey their teachers, parents and elders, so that God would help them to be successful to help themselves and their communities as well in future.

He reminded the pupils that God says the beginning of wisdom is the fear of God so they should fear God and do rights things and also pray to God to give them wisdom to lead in future.

Nana Gyebu said when he took over as the Chief of the town recently; he was told that there is a problem in the school that is why he has decided to be there with his elders to personally assess the problem on the ground and see how best it could be addressed.

The chief indicated that his elders had told him that the Gomoa East District Assembly always told them that there are so many towns that they are serving so it is not easy for them to provide amenities.

But despite that, the Chief urged the Assembly to also do the little they could to save the children from the current difficulty they are going through.

Hospital needed

The Chief of Nkwantanan also said the town is now very big with so many people so they need hospital instead of the ineffective small Chip Compound that they have for now that that does not operate full day and that they also need a Police Station to serve the community with so many people among other development projects.

Development projects

On his part, the Abusuapanin of Gomoa Nkwantanan, Nana Kwesi Botchwey, emphasized that the town has a lot of land that they are ready to offer to their Assembly to put up development projects for their people.

He called on the Government to address their acute water problem for them by extending pipe in their town to the nearby towns that are fast springing up in the area.

Nana Botchwey stressed further that their road network is in a deplorable state for, which they need urgent facelift to ensure swift movement to and fro to other areas to facilitate business in the area.

HE reminded the Government that since next year is election year if the Government fails to construct their access roads for them, they would not vote for them.

The Queenmother of Gomoa Nkwantanan, Ohemaa Aya Aboba II, on her part, advised women to work hard to earn money to support their husbands to educate their children to go far in schooling to guarantee them a better future.
