Fuseini Mohammed Sadat Dagaali popularly known as Chairman Short has been tipped as the favorite candidate to win the New Patriotic Party Chairmanship position in the Tamale North constituency in the northern region.

This is the second consecutive time the businessman cum politician has presented himself to lead the party in the area after serving as the NPP Constituency Youth Organizer in the past. Seven candidates contested the position in the 2018 elections.

However, he lost with a little vote difference to the current constituency chairman, Haruna Yussif, who was also contesting the position for the first time.

Moving into Thursday contest, a total number of 548 delegates comprising executives from 102 polling stations, 11 electoral area coordinators, the current 17 constituency executives, 5 Council of Patrons and 5 Council of Elders are expected to cast their votes to elect new leadership for the party.

The incumbent Chairman is facing stiff competition from three others including Mr. Sadat Dagaal who appears to be the main force to reckon.

Some of the delegates whose identity remains anonymous due to personal reasons indicated strongly that Fuseini Mohammed Sadat Dagaali stand the greatest chance of winning the contest.

According to the people, the party requires new energies to steer the affairs for the NPP to wrestle for the seat from the National Democratic Congress in 2024.  

In their respective view, Sadat Dagaali has the network and connections in the political spheres and government, vibrant and resourceful that would propel the chances of the party in the next general elections.

THE CUSTODIAN has also been gaging the visibility of the four candidates vying for the portfolio and can independently report that large size banners and posters of the businessman and politician is seen more than the other aspirants.  

Meanwhile, the NPP will go to the polls Thursday (April 28, 2022) to elect Constituency Officers in seventeen (17) out of eighteen (18) in the northern region. The Savelugu constituency has been excluded in the elections due to the ongoing litigation at the Tamale High Court over the 2020 parliamentary elections.

THE CUSTODIAN has however been gaging the tempo in the areas where the polls would take place and can report that, Yendi, Tolon, Nanton and recently Gushegu are hotspot constituencies due to various forms of agitations and wrangles amongst party supporters and some aspirants as well.
