The Deputy Minister for Transport who doubles as Member of Parliament for Gushegu in the northern Region, Hon Hassan Tampuli, has cut the sod for commencement of work for a bus terminal in the Gushegu municipality.

The 2No ultra-modern lorry terminal will include office space, restrooms, ticketing, parcels office, washrooms, and passengers waiting space awarded to DAAYA Construction Company Limited at a total cost of One Million Seven Hundred and Forty Thousand, Seven Hundred and Thirty-One Ghana Cedis, Forty-Eight Pesewas (GHS 1,740,731.48).

The Member of Parliament at the ground breaking ceremony on Monday (July 18, 2022) commended the late Paramount Chief of Gushegu, Naa Abdulai Shitobu I, who he disclosed allocated the required piece of land for the project without any cost.  

He said the construction of the facility has been necessitated by the congestion of vehicles during market days which makes commuting in the municipality becomes difficult for motorcycle riders and other road users.

He added vehicles traveling to the area on major economic activity days park along the shoulders of the road as there are no parking space for them.

The Deputy Minister noted as capital of the municipality, the Gushegu township deserve certain basic infrastructure, one of which he pointed out is the lorry park.

He further underscored that the completion of the bus terminal will give a facelift to the municipality and boost economic activities in the area.

“So when we have this one all the lorries will go and drop off their passengers and goods and come to park here, wait until it is time for them to go and pick their passengers and of course the goods that they are supposed to pick with the passengers.”

Other projects

The lawmaker has also promised to complete the Gushegu Community Center project which started under the erstwhile NDC government.

He said, “Under the 1992 constitution under the direct principles of state policy and I want to believe I am making reference to Article 77(5) of the constitution which states that, as much as possible, incoming governments should endeavor to complete ongoing projects by the governments that they have succeeded and I see the incomplete Community Center that has been left by the former regime.”

“We do not think that the money that was used to it was the personal money of the former Chief Executive or the former party that was in government, it is the money that belongs to the government of Ghana and the people of Gushegu and we intend to complete that project” Mr. Tampuli emphasized.  

The Gushegu Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Yaja Dawuni Robert, for his part commended the Member of Parliament for facilitating the construction of the project with funding support from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

“Indeed, our Hon. Member of Parliament has continuously shown leadership and years of commitment to the development of the Municipality. We are grateful, sir.”

He said the project after its completion, will be one of its kind in the Eastern Corridor area of the Northern Region, hence a demonstration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and his government’s commitment to improve the living conditions of people in the municipality.
