Disability Not Inability (DNI) Foundation’s second edition orientation for its ‘Train A Physically Challenged (TAP-C)’ project has been successfully launched in Abor.
DNI Foundation, is a legally registered and licensed award winning non-profit organization supporting persons with diverse forms of disabilities in the areas of education, health and entrepreneurship founded by Ms. Esther Tibila in 2018.
Under this year’s TAP-C Project, six students with diverse physical disabilities who were meticulously selected and vetted have been enrolled at St Theresa Vocational Training Centre for the Physically Handicapped.
The selected beneficiaries have been enrolled in three-year vocational disciplines in Dressmaking, ICT, Leather work and Electronics.
During the launch of the project on 6th March, 2024, the founder and executive director of DNI Foundation, Ms Esther Tibila expressed gratitude to the individuals who partnered with the organization to make this possible.
She also used the opportunity to call on organizations, individuals and businesses to join the intervention programme as partners in helping create awareness about the reproductive health needs of the Physically Challenged.
Beyond that, DNI Foundation also called on Ghanaians from all walks of life to show keen interest in sustaining support for all persons with disabilities, especially children and teenagers in helping restore hope in humanity.
“Together we can continue to preach the importance of our values which are: inclusivity, recognizing and respecting the unique abilities and perspectives of persons with disabilities as sell as instilling in them values of independence, among other virtues”
DNI Foundation also advocated for a promotion of a programmed and sustainable effort at enabling such segments of the population to strive to take advantage of opportunities available to them as Ghanaians and recognize their right to make choices.
The beneficiaries were also admonished to strive to take control of their lives and participate actively in decision-making processes in communities in which they live in matters that clearly affect them.
DNI Foundation stressed that it values the transformative power of education and are dedicated to ensuring that persons with disabilities have equal access to quality educational opportunities.
The Foundation has a focus on empowering individuals with disabilities by providing them with tools, skills and vocational education and ensure these students complete their education and proceed to live independent and fulfilling lives.
“We believe in the strength of collaboration and actively seek partnerships with other organizations, communities and individuals to maximize our impact and create a more inclusive environment.
“We therefore advocate for a Ghana where society will collaborate with state stakeholders raising that level of awareness that empowers persons with disabilities by educating them about their rights and needs as citizens.
“We strive to create an environment that is devoid of physical, social and communication barriers to ensure equal opportunities for persons with disabilities,” Ms Esther Tibila further explained.
In response to this life transforming impact, the Principal of St Theresa Vocational Training Center for the Physically Handicapped, Rev. Father Paul Ogene thanked DNI Foundation for the continuous support and pledged to cater for these students while advocating for more support in future.
