The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has donated assorted food items to flood victims in Buipe in the Central Gonja district of the Savannah Region.
About 1,500 residents comprising women and children from 500 households are reportedly displaced following the recent torrential downpours in the north.
According to the Central Gonja office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), 239 adult males and 230 adult females, in addition to 348 boys and 427 girls, have been compelled to evacuate their homes.
It is on the back of this that a delegation on behalf of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia moved swiftly on Wednesday, September 27, to donate the relief items to the victims in the bid to mitigate the impact of disaster on them before the intervention of the government.
The items included 50kg bags of rice, 20 cartons of cooking oil and 50 cartons of bottled mineral water to cushion the people.
The Savannah Regional Minister, Mr. Saeed Muazu Jibreel in the company of the New Patriotic Party Regional Secretary, Mohammed Issah, Dr Sulemana Adams Achanso, a campaign coordinator of the Vice President among other bigwigs made the donation to the affected families.
The flood victims expressed their deep gratitude to Vice President Bawumia for his thoughtful and timely assistance, offering heartfelt appreciation and prayers in return.
