Minister for Lands and Natural Resources has not approved a contract or transaction for any individual or company concerning the Ewoyaa Lithium project, according to an official statement.
The Minerals Commission in the statement signed by its Chief Executive Officer, Martin Kwaku Ayisi, indicated that negotiations are in progress for the development of the Ewoyaa Lithium deposit situated in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
“Consequently, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources has not approved any contract, transaction, deal or stake for any person, company or entity in respect of the Ewoyaa Lithium project.
“Additionally, the Commission is by law mandated to make recommendations to the Minister for the grant of mineral rights including a mining lease.
“The Commission has not made any such recommendation for the grant of a mining lease to the Minister for the development of the lithium deposits at Ewoyaa.
“At this stage, Atlantic Lithium Limited still holds a prospecting licence in the name of its local subsidiary Barari Development Ghana Limited,” the statement pointed out.
This was in response to Piedmont Lithium’s claimed acquisition of a stake in the Ewoyaa Lithium Project.
The statement emphasised that the government’s new policy framework, approved by Cabinet on July 27, 2023, aims to ensure that the exploitation of green minerals, including lithium, benefits the citizens of Ghana, who are the true owners of these resources.
“The government is committed to ensuring that Ghana reaps the maximum benefits from the exploitation of lithium and other green minerals.
“The new policy framework reflects our dedication to this goal,” the statement added.
Reassuring the public, the statement expressed the government’s unwavering commitment to guarantee that the nation optimally benefits from the sustainable exploitation of lithium and other green minerals.
