The Member of Parliament for Yendi in the Northern Region who doubles as Chairman of Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC), Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama has adjudged 2023 Most Outstanding Politician at the 5th edition of the Northern Excellence Awards.

The awards scheme is an initiative of the Celebrities Charity Development Foundation organized every year on March 5, to recognize the outstanding performance and contribution of personalities in the academia, politics, entrepreneurs, and the civil society from the five regions in the north.

“Last night, at the Northern Excellence Awards, I received an honorary award which acknowledges me as the “Most Outstanding Politician of the Year, 2023”.

Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama told THE CUSTODIAN in an interview, “We are resilient people committed to building a confident Yendi which is united and at peace with ourselves. This underpins my individual initiatives to tool our farmers, empower the youth and women, care about their health, and to support the needy schoolchild.”

He said, “On behalf of myself, my constituents, my family and team, I thank the organizers for the honour of this award. I am deeply humbled by the Award and I accept the challenge that it imposes on me to continue to lead exemplary leadership hinged on nothing else but development, compassion and people-first.”  

The Yendi lawmaker added that, “it is good to be able to show that standing out for the ordinary people in our society has its rewards. May God bless us all and the peoples of Yendi and Ghana.”

Meanwhile, some residents of Yendi in their reactions to the award have commended the MP for the groundbreaking and human-centered initiatives he has introduced since 2020 under the New Yendi City vision to transform the municipality.

Among many others, Mr. Mahama has initiated the Yendi Best Teacher Awards scheme, Scholarship for students and agricultural inputs for farmers. There is massive water and road infrastructure development ongoing in the municipality as well as several rural electrification projects.
