GIPC officials pay courtesy call on Northern Regional Minister

The Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, on Tuesday (May 17, 2022) received officials of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) who are in the region as part of a nationwide sensitization tour under the theme, “Grow in Ghana, Grow with Ghana”.

The GIPC are expected to organize fora in the Tamale metropolis on Thursday (May 19, 2022) to educate educate stakeholders in the region about the functions of the centre and the untapped economic potential and opportunities existing in the area, engage MMDAs and traditional authorities on the need to make land available for investment purposes.  

 The GIPC will also obtain first-hand information from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the region pertaining to issues that impede business growth and on-the-spot analysis of company for registration as well as the development and packaging of new projects for promotion.  

The Minister said the Northern Region is a good destination for investment and stated the GIPC initiative will be an opportunity for the people to showcase their business ideas for promotion for investment.

Mr. Shani Alhassan Shaibu indicated the agriculture sector in the region has enormous investment advantages and further welcome investors to take explore the iron ore deposits in the Tatali/Sanguli district.

“The Northern Region house the largest steel depot in the country and over 200 kilometers from Tamale is the Sheini iron ore which is a great potential of 1.7billion tonnes of iron ore that can be mined and the benefits will help Ghana in our developmental efforts” he stated.

“Probably, people know what is here but they are not hearing from the horses own mouth, they may not are not enthused about the things that are happening here. I am happy that your research department is also here and I am sure if we get a good report and the necessary things would be done – the free zones in Tamale will represent the five regions here in the north because the northern region has always been seen as the pacesetter” added.

He noted a lot of resources in the region have been underutilized due to lack promotion and inadequate packaging and thereby urged the research department of the GIPC to help uncover these untapped opportunities.  

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Director of the GIPC, Mr. Abdul Mumin Zakaria introduced the senior staff of from Accra and the northern region to the Regional Minister.
