The government has released more than GH¢76,466,919.20 million to support the Ghana national football team, Black Stars, for the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The funding is expected to cover key areas of preparation, including training camps, player welfare, logistics, and technical support. The investment is aimed at ensuring the national team is fully equipped to compete at the highest level on the global stage.
The government released GH¢58,929,500.00, the cedi equivalent of US$5,000,000.00, as an advance payment to support the Ghana national football team in its preparations and to cover costs associated with the team’s participation in the group stages of the World Cup.
The advance funding is intended to facilitate key preparatory activities, including training camps, logistics, and other essential requirements as the team builds up to the tournament.
The allocation also reflects the government’s continued commitment to developing football and supporting national teams in major international competitions.
Settlement of outstanding qualification bonuses
In addition, the government has released GH¢17,537,419.20, the cedi equivalent of US$1,488,000.00, to settle outstanding bonuses owed to the team.
These payments fulfil the performance-based agreement reached during the qualifying campaign, under which players received 50 per cent of their bonuses during the qualifiers, with the remaining 50 percent contingent on successful qualification for the tournament.
The government reiterated its commitment to supporting the Ghana national football team and promoting the development of sports nationwide.
“We believe this timely release of funds will provide the stability and motivation needed for the technical team and players to focus on their core mandate: delivering success for the people of Ghana.
“We call on all Ghanaians to continue to offer their unwavering support to the Black Stars as they embark on this prestigious journey to the World Cup,” the statement said.
