The Ghana Scholarships Authority has announced that the government has released first-quarter funds to the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom to begin settling outstanding scholarship arrears owed to Ghanaian students.
The move forms part of efforts to address delays in the payment of stipends and tuition fees that have affected several beneficiaries studying at institutions across the UK.
In a statement issued on Thursday, April 16, and signed by the Director-General of the Authority, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, the Authority acknowledged concerns raised by affected students and apologised for the inconvenience caused. It is assured that measures are being implemented to restore normal payment schedules.
According to the Authority, the funds are intended to meet the financial obligations of beneficiaries and provide immediate relief, ensuring continuity in their academic programmes.
It added that the disbursed funds will go through the required administrative and public financial management processes before payments are credited to students’ accounts as quickly as possible.
Government, the statement said, remains committed to the welfare of Ghanaian students abroad and is working with relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely clearance of all outstanding payments while preventing future delays.
The Authority also reiterated its commitment to strengthening internal systems to improve efficiency in scholarship administration and ensure the timely release of funds going forward.
Beneficiaries have been urged to remain calm and stay focused on their studies as efforts continue to resolve all outstanding obligations.
