The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has attributed the nationwide power outage (Dumsor) recorded in the early hours of Wednesday to a disturbance on the National Interconnected Transmission System.
In a statement, GRIDCo said the incident occurred at approximately 3am and resulted in the simultaneous tripping of several power generation plants connected to the national power system. The development disrupted electricity supply to consumers across the country.
According to the company, its engineers and system operators immediately activated established restoration procedures following the disturbance. The technical teams worked in close collaboration with stakeholders within the power sector to restore supply to affected areas as quickly as possible while ensuring that safety standards were maintained throughout the process.
GRIDCo said efforts to restore electricity were being carried out carefully to prevent further disruptions and protect the integrity of the national transmission system.
The company also disclosed that a comprehensive technical investigation had been launched to establish the precise cause of the disturbance. The investigation is expected to provide clarity on the factors that triggered the simultaneous tripping of the affected generation plants.
GRIDCo apologised to consumers and members of the public for the inconvenience and disruption caused by the outage. It also thanked electricity users for their patience and understanding as restoration efforts continued.
The company assured the public that it remained committed to resolving the situation and restoring power to all affected customers as quickly and safely as possible.
