The Member of Parliament for Gushegu constituency in the northern region, Hon Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli, has cut the sod for the construction of the Zinindo to Nyoligu road project. Before the sod cutting ceremony on Wednesday, January 4, the contractor, INSAAN Ghana Limited had already started work on the 9.2km road.

The project will cost the government of Ghana ¢18.5 million and is expected to be completed within eight months.

The Northern Regional Director of Feeder Roads, Ing Castro said, “Originally when we surveyed we had 9.2km but we’ve had to realign it, straightening certain sections and its now 8.4km.”

“The main activities in this project would involve the clearing of the road, the formation of the road which is currently in progress; then we are going to provide 16 culverts at various locations to improve drainage. We are also going gravel the entire road” he explained.

The Feeder Roads Director expressed confidence in the ability of the contractor to do quality work, assuring the Chiefs and people of the community that the contractor is very good and reliable.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for his part said the government has also put plans in place to construct the 30km road connecting Sanguli to Kpatinga.

“We’re grateful to the President and Vice President turning the attention of the government to Gushegu constituency, we in Gushegu constituency believes very strongly that this government came because of us – because the benefits that we have derived from this government is quite enormous, like Oliver twist, we keep asking for more but what we’ve had so far, we’re extremely grateful” Mr. Tampuli stated.

He said the economic significance of the road when completed cannot be overemphasized adding that, it will create a direct link to many farming communities and open up trade between the Gushegu municipality and its neighboring Nanton district.

He noted it will also serve as an avenue for the Zinindo health centre and referrals to the Savelugu government hospital because it is a very short route to Savelugu.
