Heath Goldfields has officially settled outstanding salary arrears owed to its mine workers, ending a period of uncertainty that had affected employees and their families.
The payments, which had been delayed for several months, were completed, according to the Managing Director of Heath Goldfields, Patrick Mensah.
The resolution comes after sustained discussions between management and worker representatives, who had raised concerns about financial hardship caused by the delay in wages.
Many workers reportedly faced difficulties meeting basic living expenses during the period of non-payment, prompting calls for urgent action.
In a show of appreciation, management of Heath Goldfields, together with the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union branch at the company, organised a thank-you walk to acknowledge management’s efforts in resolving the matter.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, Patrick Mensah, and the Union Branch Chairman, Patrick Lartey, confirmed that the majority of affected workers had already received their payments, while a few others were completing final verification procedures.
According to Mensah, almost all beneficiaries had been paid, particularly workers entitled to severance packages.
“The severance, particularly, was for about 212 workers. As of yesterday, about 210 had come, cleared themselves, and received their money. The remaining workers, I believe, are on their way to complete the documentation, sign, and then receive their payments as well.
“We have paid all severance. So, about 5 or 10 people who are not around are finding ways to come and verify their accounts, after which they will receive their payments. But we can say that about 98% of the people have received their money,” he said.
