The outspoken former National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Mion Constituency in the Northern Region, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Aziz, has exclusively told THE CUSTODIAN that he will contest the party’s Parliamentary Primaries slated in May 2023 regardless of any insults and machinations.

Some aggrieved Concerned Youth of NDC in the Mion constituency had petitioned the party to bar Mr. Abdul Aziz who happened to be the 2020 Parliamentary Candidate of the NDC from contesting the upcoming parliamentary primaries slated in May 2023.

The group among other issues accused the latter of anti-party behavior and creating division in the NDC even after his defeat in 2020. They also alleged that the former lawmaker siphoned the MP’s share of the District Assemble Common Fund.

Reacting to allegations however, Mr. Abdul Aziz said, “I heard that they’re organizing to demonstrate – they should go ahead; I have a thick skin for politics, I have thick skin for insults and all those nonsense. It doesn’t deter me; my aim is to rescue the Mion seat for the NDC and the development of Mion”.

He further rubbished the allegations stating that some members of the group are beneficiaries of his assistance during his tenure as Member of Parliament for the area.

“I paid the school fees of the senior brother of the one [referring to Chairman of the Concerned Youth of NDC] speaking to you, there are some issues I don’t want to go into the nitty gritty. One of the boys who signed the petition, as a former MP, I got admission for him at UDS” he asserted.

“What I want to advice the youth is that, if it is someone who has tasked them to do this to become NDC Parliamentary Candidate, then the person should prepare for a contest; and today I am announcing this on your platform that, when they open nominations, I will pick the forms, I will run for the primaries and I will win the elections but my desire is not winning the primaries but winning back the seat for the NDC” the former lawmaker announced.

Records

The former MP stated his developmental records is unmatched in the history of the constituency and challenged anybody for a debate as far as the development of the constituency is concerned.

“And when it comes development and the Common Fund, I succeeded an NDC MP and I don’t want to say somethings because it will appear as though I denigrating him but in the history of Mion, no MP has brought development than me – I won the seat as opposition MP but talk about roads, electricity, water, school blocks or youth empowerment, if they know of anyone who has done well than me, I can pay for debate” he stressed.
