The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr John Boadu, has commended the party Northern Regional setup of the party and the various constituencies for their wonderful performance during the 2020 general election that witnessed the party significantly increased their votes in both Presidential and Parliamentary polls.
“I want to express my gratitude from the headquarters of the party for the wonderful job that the Northern Region of our party did in the year 2020. Apart from the fact that you maintained the nine seats that you had before 2020 elections; if you put the three northern regions – i.e North East, Savannah and the northern region together, we used to have 31 constituencies but for the separation, as we speak now – putting the three together, we have 16 constituencies as against 15 by the NDC” he posited.
According to the NPP Chief Scribe, this victory was possible because of the collective determination of the Akufo-Addo government and the party structures to restore peace in the Dagbon traditional area, emphasizing that before the Dagbon crisis, “We were winning Tamale Central Tamale South and Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris was the MP at that time and the name of the constituency was Gukpegu/Sabonjida.”
He added, “It was after the Dagbon crisis that we lost all these seats and you’ve shown that you want peace to prevail. It is for that reason that the resolution of the Dagbon crisis led to the increase in our Presidential votes by over 120, 000 votes difference between us in the previous election – I think this is wonderful, this excellent, there is no region that performed the way you did in the last region and I think it is important we acknowledge that.”
Mr. John Boadu noted there is no political party in Ghana but the New Patriotic Party which has been able to put together a wonderful show by getting all their constituencies to organize their Annual Delegates Conference.
“Just as I told you we have taken stock of our activities for last year and we will use this occasion to, if there are any resolutions to pass, we would use this occasion to do so” the NPP General Secretary added.
