The Kalpohin Senior High School (KALISCO) in the Sagnarigu municipality has gotten 300-bed girls dormitory facility.

The facility is part of the massive infrastructure initiative government has embarked on across the second cycle schools in the country.

The project was inaugurated by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hajia Mariam Iddrisu and handed over to the Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Government last year secured an amount of US$1.5billion through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) to finance the construction of educational infrastructure in the various Senior High Schools in an attempt to tackle the infrastructure deficit following the implementation of the free SHS in 2017.

The Sagnarigu MCE said about 11 different projects are being constructed in the Tamale Senior High, Islamic Senior High and the Kalpohin Senior High schools in the municipality.

However, she stated the Northern School of Business Senior High (NOBISCO) is the only institution yet to benefit a classroom or dormitory infrastructure under the programme.

According to her, only a toilet facility have so far been constructed at the school.

That notwithstanding, Hajia Mariam noted at least three different facilities are being constructed in each of the three schools, i.e. the Islamic Senior High, Tamale Senior High and Kalpohin Senior High schools.

“At TAMASCO, I know of 6-unit classroom block, 12-unit classroom block and another 6-unit classroom block plus girls dormitory and similarly at KALISCO we have 6 and 12 classroom blocks and the dormitory facility that we have commissioned”

“We have also commissioned another six- unit classroom block at the Sagnarigu Islamic SHS and I also inspected the other ongoing projects at the schools” she added.

According to the MCE, the remaining projects are all about 90 percent complete and anticipated further when these structures are completed, the SHS schools in the Sagnarigu municipality will exit from the double track system.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, Hajia Samata Mahama on her part commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the government for the massixve infrastructure projects in the area.

She said accommodation has become a major bottleneck affecting the introduction of the Free SHS policy and the government’s timely intervention, she noted, would ease congestion at the schools.

Hajia Samata in an interview with THE CUSTODIAN said, “The government is really investing so much to provide infrastructure in the education sector and we have to be grateful and thank the President for that.”

The GES Director said these infrastructure are critical and an enhancement to achieving quality education in the municipality.

She added that, at the Islamic SHS one more girls’ dormitory is needed for the school to eliminate double track and encouraged the completion of the remaining projects.

Hajia Samata revealed one thousand three hundred (1,300) dual desks were distributed to the four SHS schools to complement the infrastructure.

According to her, the schools now have sufficient furniture for teaching and learning.

“I don’t know what happened but NOBISCO has not had their share yet and I am appealing to government to do something about the situation” she appealed.

However, the Sagnarigu MCE, Hajia Mariam Iddrisu explained in an interview that her outfit has written a letter to the administrator of GETFUND and copied the Ministry of Education notifying them that the Northern School of Business Senior High is yet to benefit from the programme.
