The National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Charles Dwamena also known as Dr China, has called for the inclusion of all members in good standing former executive members of the Party in the Electoral College of the Party.
Speaking on the National Agenda show on Net 2 TV on Tuesday, April 15th, Dr China, as the National Treasurer is known in the political circles, advocated for the inclusion of all members in good standing in the electoral college of the Party.
According to him, such a move will promote inclusiveness in the Party and ensure that the rank and file of the Party get the opportunity to participate in the decision making processes of the Party.
He admitted however that, there may be logistical constraints that may make it impossible for the immediate inclusion of all members in which case, at least all former executive members of the Party, from the polling station level to the National level should be included in the Electoral College to promote broader participation.
He indicated that it is totally unacceptable to have situations where former executive members of the Party no longer play active roles in the Party’s decision making processes once the exit office.
This, he said, leaves the party on the losing end as the Party does not benefit from the rich experience such officers gain during their tenure as executives.
On the part of patrons, Dr China admitted that currently some patrons are included in the Electoral College but added that it is not enough as all patrons contribute financially towards the running of the Party and so when it comes to decision making, it is only fair that they are all allowed to participate.
According to him, such a move will promote inclusiveness within the Party. He further stressed that there is the need for constituency officers to create the avenues for aggrieved members to vent out their anger and frustrations in a controlled environment as that is essential in our healing and rebuilding efforts.
Dr China further stressed that allowing members to vent out in a controlled environment would help reduce the tendencies of members going on radio to do so.
He therefore encouraged constituency officers to go round the various electoral areas and polling stations to engage members in this manner.
