Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has expressed confidence that her performance in office justifies her selection as Ghana’s Best Regional Minister, pointing to her administration’s work in development, sanitation, security, and improved public service delivery across the region.
She defended her recognition as “Best Regional Minister” for 2026 by Big Events Ghana under the “Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours,” 6th Edition.
Ocloo outlined a number of initiatives carried out under her leadership, saying the Greater Accra Region has made notable progress in key areas.
She attributed these gains to cooperation between government agencies, local assemblies, traditional leaders, and residents.
Responding to comments attributed to the Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Michael Kpessa-Whyte, who stated that “real honour is service, not paid recognition,” Ocloo, in an interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio, suggested his remarks were driven by political rivalry linked to their contest in the Shai Osudoku constituency.
“I have defeated Kpessa-Whyte four consecutive times, and so if Kpessa-Whyte thought at a point that because I was recognised, he want to tarnish… are you telling me that Ato Forson who received the award gave an amount before he received it, Armah Kofi Buah, did he pay for it before he was recognised, Ruth Sedoh from National Service, did she pay for it and other dignataries…
“Mr dear, we shouldn’t entertain such, I don’t want to use the words on him, but please spare me this, I have gone through a lot… I’m stressed, I don’t want to discuss anything about Kpessa-Whyte, if he had personal issues, he should deal with the institutions not me,” she stated.
She further stressed that ongoing efforts in the region include tackling sanitation challenges, upgrading road infrastructure, strengthening security, and improving coordination among metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies. According to her, these interventions are helping to make Greater Accra cleaner, safer, and more attractive for business and investment.
Ocloo also acknowledged the support of President John Dramani Mahama and other stakeholders working with the Regional Coordinating Council to implement development projects.
She added that while awards and recognition are appreciated, her main focus remains delivering service to residents and promoting sustainable development across the region.
