Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has reportedly appeared before the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) with his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, following a court order authorising his arrest.
His appearance on Thursday, October 1, 2026, came a day after the Accra High Court issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with an ongoing investigation.
The court also granted EOCO authority to search for and seize documents it considers relevant to the probe. EOCO told the court it had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance and was concerned that relevant documents could be concealed, altered or destroyed.
The arrest warrant was issued after an attempted arrest of Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23. EOCO has said the MP was invited twice in February 2026 but failed to appear.
Mr Baffour Awuah, however, has challenged that account, arguing that the invitations were directed to his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, which represented SIC Life Savings & Loans.
According to him, after the matter was referred to the Clerk to Parliament, a representative of the law firm appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30 and supplied the information requested by investigators, including a written statement.
The investigation relates to alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited. Authorities have associated the probe with suspected financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering. The allegations remain under investigation.
Mr Baffour Awuah’s appearance before EOCO represents the latest development in the case, following the attempted arrest at the Accra High Court and the subsequent issuance of the arrest warrant.
