The Member of Parliament (MP) for Savelugu constituency in the Northern Region, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has prayed for the soul of the late Muhamed Abdul Samed Gunu, a former MP for the area to rest peacefully.
The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) reportedly passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in the Greater Accra Region where he was giving medical attention after short illness.
His remains was later flown back to Savelugu for the necessary Islamic funeral rites and burial ceremony at the Savelugu public cemetery.
Hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their last respect and also observed the Salat al-Janazah (Islamic funeral prayer for a deceased Muslim) before his interment.
In a Facebook post, Hajia FatFatahi said this was a heavy loss to the immediate family and the constituency at large.

”With a heavy heart, I mourn the passing of my senior brother and former Member of Parliament for Savelugu, Hon. Muhamed Abdul-Samed Gunu” she wrote.
Meanwhile, the late Abdul Samed made history to serve in the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, after winning the Savelugu seat for the NPP in the 2016 general elections.
