MedDrop Box Inc. has once again supported the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) with a donation of essential medical supplies, making it the organization’s fourth consecutive year of contribution to the facility.
Speaking after the presentation, President of MedDrop Box Inc., Mr. Nana Somuah, expressed the organization’s continued commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in Ghana despite logistical challenges encountered this year.
“We are always excited to make these donations every year and this is our fourth year in a row. We are hoping to come back in the coming years”. He added that “We had a few challenges where some of our contacts left the hospitals we work with. We also missed some supplies due to delays, but we are excited we were still able to bring some donations this year.”
Mr. Somuah noted that MedDrop Box Inc. regularly consults with UGMC to ensure that the donated items meet the hospital’s operational needs.
“They find the items valuable. Of course, some are disposables and once those run out, the hospital has to restock. But overall, they have been able to utilise the supplies for the benefit of patients,” he added.
Most of the items donated were sourced from the Orthopedic Centre at Bristol Health in Connecticut, making UGMC the ideal recipient due to its advanced surgical capabilities.

“We have approached other facilities, including rural hospitals, but they do not require such highly sophisticated items,” Mr. Somuah explained. “UGMC has the capacity and expertise to use them effectively, which is why we keep choosing them.”
He further disclosed that the organization is exploring partnerships to widen the range of supplies – especially more general-purpose items – to enable donations to additional hospitals.
“Two years ago, we supported Masigan Medical Center with sutures and maternal materials, which were useful. But most of our items currently are highly specialized.”
Highlighting future priorities, he emphasized the need for improved allocation of supplies across facilities.
“We could do a better job at being more efficient. UGMC uses most of the items, but some supplies like sutures might be more beneficial in resource-limited hospitals.”
UGMC Commends Long-standing Support
A medical officer at UGMC, Dr. Faisal Tikuma Abdallah, expressed appreciation for the annual donations, stressing the vital role they play in reducing healthcare costs for patients.

“These items are very important. As a hospital, we run on consumables, and many of the items MedDrop Box Inc. donates come to us at no cost. Healthcare is expensive, and consumables are a major part of that cost. When we get them for free, it eases the burden on patients.”
Dr. Abdallah added that some patients are unable to afford essential medical materials, making such donations crucial to their treatment.
“MedDrop Box Inc. has been here for four years, and it has been a very good relationship. We want to thank them for always ensuring patients have a better healthcare experience. We hope they get more partners so they can bring in even more supplies, because the donations we have here are a lot but are limited considering the people we serve”.
