The Ministry of Finance has dismissed claims of outstanding salary arrears for newly posted Ghana Education Service (GES) staff, confirming that all 6,300 teachers recruited in 2024 without financial clearance have now been paid.
In a press release dated September 8, 2026, the Ministry responded to an appeal by the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the GES. It stated that the current government inherited the 6,300 staff in 2025 and moved quickly to regularise their payments.
According to the Ministry, Cabinet approved the payments, and financial clearance was issued for them to be made in four tranches. “The Ministry of Finance can confirm that all 6,300 staff covered by this arrangement have been paid,” the statement said.
The Ministry further clarified that it currently has no pending requests for financial clearance from the GES. Any individual staff member still facing salary or arrears challenges has been directed to contact the Ghana Education Service for resolution of payroll or administrative issues.
The release was issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Finance for immediate distribution.
