‎MTN Ghana has announced an investment of US$1.1 billion over the next three years, including approximately US$380 million earmarked for 2026 to expand the network.
‎
‎This is aimed at enhancing the network capacity, improve service quality and strengthen the resilience of its infrastructure to meet growing customer demands as the company marks 30 years of its operations in the country.
‎
‎The company has reiterated its commitment to building a stronger network, backed by real investment.  As a result, a total of 80 new sites will be deployed across the Northern, Savannah, Upper East and Northeast regions.
‎
‎Senior Manager in charge of Base Station Subsystems, Mr. Emmanuel Kwei Afutu who announced the rollout at this year’s MTN Regional Editors and Stakeholders Forum in Tamale last Friday, August 14, 2026, disclosed that the Northern Region will receive 38 new sites, 17 in Savannah, 14 in Upper East, and 11 in the North East.
‎
‎He noted that the company continues to play a significant role in Ghana’s digital transformation with more than 32 million subscribers connected to the network across the country.
‎
‎”We believe that the true value of connectivity is measured not only by the sites we build or the technology we deploy, but by the opportunities it creates and the lives it touches” he stated.
‎
‎Mr. Afutu emphasized it is through this commitment to connecting people and enabling progress that, “We seek to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve with a total commitment of 500 cell sites nationwide.”
‎
‎Recounting the three decades journey of MTN Ghana, the Senior Manager highlighted the mission was straightforward: to connect people.
‎
‎However, he observed that there were years when the network did not reach as far as it needed to, when service fell short of what communities deserved, and when they had to listen hard and do better.
‎
‎”We say that not to dwell on it, but because gratitude that only remembers the easy years isn’t complete gratitude. We are thankful for those lessons too, and for the patience many of you showed us while we learned them” he said.
‎
‎Thirty years on, Emmanuel Kwei Afutu indicated MTN Ghana has witnessed a significant revolution, stating the idea that a Ghanaian farmer in the Northern Region could transfer money, access information, or connect with a buyer in Accra from a device in the palm of their hand would have sounded like science fiction.
‎
‎”That is the quiet and extraordinary revolution MTN Ghana has had the privilege of being part of for three decades. We are here today not simply to celebrate a milestone, but to reflect honestly on our journey, reaffirm our commitment, and look ahead to the future we are helping to build” he maintained.
