MTN Ghana has launched the 2026 Savannah Fest, one of its key regional initiatives to connect with communities, celebrate local culture, reward customers and strengthen relationships with traditional leaders, businesses, youth groups among other stakeholders in the northern region.
This year’s program is the second edition following a successful event in 2025. Four teams namely, Nyohini FC, Tolon FC, Gumani FC and Sakasaka FC were the participating communities in the maiden edition.
Nyohini FC emerged as the winner of the competition beating Sakasaka FC in the finals to lift the ultimate prize.
For this year, the organizers have increased the participating teams to 16 with the competition expected to begin on Friday, September 18, 2026.
A live draw was conducted and the match fixtures set out on Wednesday, September 16, in the presence of all relevant stakeholders including enthusiastic football lovers, officiating officials and community elders.

Speaking at the launch, the Area Sales Manager for the Northern Territory, Mr. Richard Asamani said this year’s event is a rich blend of activities designed to entertain, engage, support and celebrate the people of the Northern Region.
He further outlined other activities earmarked for the period which includes a Music Concert at the Modern City Hotel on September 19, a clean-up exercise at the Taxi Station and Tamale Teaching Hospital on September 25, Health Walk and free health screening at the Tamale Jubilee Park on September 26.
This would be culminated with the grand finals of the Gala matches on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Meanwhile, as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the telecommunication network, MTN Ghana is also rewarding customers in exciting ways across the country.
The Sales Manager in his remarks disclosed that the company is giving away nine Toyota Land Cruiser Prados, cash prizes, lifestyle and digital rewards.
Additionally, he mentioned that 30 high-value customers were sponsored to watch the just ended FIFA World Cup in the United States of America.
”We have also doubled the reward for the overall winner of our Heroes of Change program (a program that seeks to reward selfless individuals in our communities who are championing change and enriching lives through their own resources), from GHS 200,000 to GHS 400,000.
Three out of the nine Land Cruiser Prados have been given out to the lucky winners in Accra last month. Here in the Northern Sector, three Toyota Land Cruisers and other prizes will be presented, today, to another set of lucky winners” he emphasized.
He further reiterated that MTN Ghana will continue brighten lives through meaningful community investment, stressing through the MTN Ghana Foundation, “We continue to support education, health and economic empowerment across the country.”
In the Northern Region, the company’s recent interventions include digital skills programmes, SME training, Bright Scholarships and the construction of a GH¢9.7 million multi-purpose digital resource centre at the Dungu Campus of the University for Development Studies in Tamale.
