The Paramount Chief of Karaga - Naa Abdulai Naatogma

The Paramount Chief of Karaga, Naa Abdulai Naatogma has finally taken over the traditional area after two years of litigation over legitimacy.

This follows the declaration made by the Judiciary Committee of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, that the rightful occupant was Naa Naatogma and ordered the former Karaga Regent, Mahama Sumani, to vacant the palace within 48hours.

Information gathered by THE CUSTODIAN on Wednesday indicated the Regent welcomed the ruling and accordingly vacated the palace with his family.

This therefore paved the way for Naa Naatogma who was hitherto residing in Yendi whilst seeking an amicable resolution of the matter to undertake the necessary customary rituals and move to assume his duties.

In a video sighted by THE CUSTODIAN, the Paramount Chief, Naa Abdulai Naatogma, called for unity and peace among the people for the needed growth and development of the traditional area.

He also invited the inhabitants to bury their difference and come together to give and the elders their maximum support and cooperation to transform the area.

“I have been enskinned as the Chief but we must come together and pray for the progress and prosperity of the area. It is my fervent prayer that in six months, one year or two years, no young person would want to seek greener pastures elsewhere because they will find everything here” he intimated.

Background

Meanwhile, His Royal Majesty, Ya Naa Abukari II enskinned Naa Abdulai Naatogma from the Abudu royal family in 2020 as part of the Dagbon peace pact but the Regent of the Mahami family also declared himself as Chief of Karaga which was widely condemned because it undermines the authority of the Dagbon King.
