The Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo has called on the rank-and-file of the party to rally behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh affectionately called Napo for victory in the 2024 general election.
Naa Torshie made the call after she congratulated Napo on his nomination as running mate to Dr. Bawumia for the December 7, 2024 polls.
Napo who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South and Minister for Energy, has been recognized for his unwavering commitment and contributions to the party and the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
NPP’s National Council, the second highest decision-making body of the governing party last Thursday unanimously endorsed the nomination of Napo to partner Dr. Bawumia for the upcoming polls.
In a congratulatory message, Naa Torshie acknowledged Napo’s impressive competence and accomplishments in various high-profile ministerial positions in government.
She called on all NPP supporters to respect the decision of the National Council and unite behind the Bawumia-Opoku Prempeh ticket.
Naa Torshie urged party members to close ranks and work harder to secure victory on December 7, 2024.
“With the endorsement of Dr. Opoku Prempeh by the National Council of NPP as the running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, I would entreat all NPP supporters to respect the decision and quickly close ranks to support the Bawumia and Opoku Prempeh ticket for the forthcoming elections. Their success is the success of NPP, regardless of anyone’s preference, and that should be our orientation and focus to spur us on to work harder to secure victory on 7th December 2024.
“As a well-grounded politician with extensive experience in governance and legislation and a drive to deliver impactful results to improve the fortunes of Ghana and the New Patriotic Party, I am confident in the formidable candidature of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Opoku Prempeh to lead the party to success in the upcoming elections in December 2024,” she reiterated.
The Administrator of the DACF emphasised Napo’s extensive experience in governance and legislation, expressing confidence in the formidable candidature of Dr. Bawumia and his running mate to lead the party to success in the upcoming elections.
Naa Torshie expressed gratitude to her supporters and those who had confidence in her as a potential running mate.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all my supporters, fans and those who had confidence in my capacity to be a suitable running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. I am humbled by your kind gesture and confidence you reposed in me in this regard.
She emphasized the importance of unity and hard work in achieving the party’s goal of breaking the eight-year cycle in Ghanaian politics and continuing the good work of building a self-reliant economy and a thriving country.
“Now the hard work begins. Let us all join forces and work extra hard with a common purpose to BREAK THE 8 and secure a resounding victory for NPP to continue the good work of building a self-reliant economy and a thriving country,” she stressed.
About Napo
Born on May 23, 1968, in Ashanti New Town, a suburb of Kumasi, Napo hails from Pakyi No. 2 in the Ashanti Region.
He started his basic education at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Primary, and continued to Prempeh College in Kumasi for his Secondary education
He studied Human Biology and Medicine at KNUST and completed his MB CHB in 1994.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh continued with post-graduate studies in MSc. Clinical Epidemiology at the Netherlands Institute of Health Sciences in 1998, and at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where he studied Leadership and Government (certificate course).
In 2002, he pursued postgraduate training in surgery in the UK (MRCS).
Prior to entering parliament, Napo served as CEO of Keyedmap Security Services Limited from 2004 to 2009.
He is also a medical doctor and served as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the United Kingdom from 1999 to 2003.
Napo has been the MP for Manhyia South from 2009 to date.
