The National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, has advised communities along the White and Black Volta Lakes to move to higher grounds as neighboring Burkina Faso prepares to open the Bagre and Kompienga dams for spillage.

The Ghanaian Authorities of the Disaster Management Organization have received notice from its partners, SONABEL ENERGY, from Burkina Faso about the imminent spillage of the Bagre Dam in the coming days.

According to a report, the possibility of the spillage is high since the current Bagre Dam level as at yesterday (24 August, 2021) was 234.09m as against the maximum spillage level of 235m.

The report further indicates that, the water level of the dam seems to be rising rapidly, stating that, the possibility of opening of the valves can start between 27 August and 30, 2021.

“This flood alert therefore is to inform the general public, the communities along the White and Black Volta Lakes as well as our development partners to be on the alert and get all the communities who may be at risk to move to higher grounds” the reported further advised.
