The National Investigation Bureau (NIB) is on the heels of some bigwigs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in what has been described as political witch-hunting and persecution of members of the main opposition party.
This is because a former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) board, Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has been taken into custody by the NIB at Kawukudi, near Nima in the Greater Accra Region.
The Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC has also been summoned by the same investigative body to appear before it on Wednesday 26, 2025 over some allegations he made against President John Dramani Mahama.
The circumstances surrounding Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s detention remain unclear as at press time.
The NPP bigwig, who previously served as Minister of Education under John Agyekum Kufuor administration, was reportedly apprehended by NIB officials, but no official statement has been released regarding the reasons for his arrest.
His legal team, according to information gathered, had swiftly moved into action to secure his release.
Lawyers representing Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi yesterday engaged with NIB authorities to understand the basis of his detention and to call for his rights.
Their efforts are focused on ensuring that the former minister is granted bail while any necessary legal processes are followed.

Abronye on NIB
Meanwhile, the Bono NPP Regional Chairman, Abronye DC has accused the NIB of bias in the discharge of their duties.
This followed his invitation by the Bureau to appear on February 26, 2025 in relation to some allegations he reportedly made against President Mahama.
The NIB indicated Abronye was required to provide evidence supporting his claims that President Mahama was withholding GH¢550 million intended for dismissed appointees at the Jubilee House.
Abronye DC allegedly made these claims during an appearance on Accra-based Movement Television, where he also accused the government of corruption in the recruitment and revocation processes.
He told Channel One News in an interview on Saturday that “There was a money intended for those employees whose appointment letter have been terminated, and no government will recruit without budgeting. So I’ll go and face them. I haven’t seen the criminal element of that. So they said I should come and assist them in investigation. So let’s go and then take it from there.
“Then after that, we can read meaning to their invitation whether they are trying to reintroduce the culture of silence that everybody spoke against some time ago. I don’t see the criminal element of this issue for BNI to take or invite me to assist them when the current government appointees have made wild allegation, and the director of BNI hasn’t invited any of them.
“Wild allegation, serious that Akyem mafia we are hoarding gold outside, the MIIF. There are monies that they have stolen. A lot of things. So the director of, national investigation did not invite any of them. So we will go and prove to them that they are doing selectivity in their work.”
