Mr Mohammed A. Baantima, NPP Northern Regional Chairman

The Northern Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mohammed A. Baantima, has placed a temporal ban on all activities related to the conduct of the party’s presidential primaries in the region until the green light is given for the campaign to start.

The prohibition followed a plethora of media engagements by activists claiming to be members of the NPP in pursuit of the interests of potential flagbearer aspirants of the party.

The phenomenon, he warned, has the tendency of disturbing party peace and cohesion and drawing back on the performance of the government if not nipped in the bud.

In a statement, the chairman issued a directive to all party people to suspend all activities connected to the presidential primaries until such time that it is officially declared okay to do so.

Mr. Mohammed Baantima, popularly referred to as Chairman Samba, also directed that all media engagements related to the subject cease forthwith until further notice.

“Failure to adhere to the above will attract disciplinary measures as the regional executive committee is not ready to allow a chaotic front of the party in the region.

“Media houses are entreated to seek clarifications on party issues from official party structures and not to countenance mushroom groups whose sole aim is to destabilize the front of the NPP in the region,” the statement said in part.

Chairman Samba expressed hope that as the Holy Month of Ramadan approaches, Muslims in the Region will commit both the leadership of the NPP and the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo into the hands of Allah for the peace of mind so needed to steer the affairs of the party and government.

He urged party supporters to be guided by the best interests of the NPP.
