The Global Fund has donated a total of one hundred and fifty-one (151) motorbikes to the Northern Regional Health Directorate to boost the mobility of healthcare workers in seven metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies in the region.
The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, received the motorbikes on behalf of the Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The beneficiary districts include the Tamale Metropolitan area (6), Sagnarigu municipal (30), Gushegu municipal (26), Tolon (20), Nanton (16), Karaga (26), and Saboba (27) districts.
The gesture is described as a significant intervention by the Global Fund aimed at bolstering the efforts of health workers in the beneficiary MMDAs and the Northern Region as a whole.
The Project Manager of the Global Fund, Mr. Herbert Raymond Appiah, who handed the machines to the Regional Minister and Regional Health Director, highlighted that the procurement process was transparent.
He stated further that the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) facilities in the implementing districts were selected based on an evidence-driven process.
The Project Manager emphasised that the process ensured equity and alignment with the Community Health Officers’ (CHOs) training support, with the allocations done based on the number of CHPS facilities with trained Community Health Officers.
The Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, extended his profound gratitude to the Global Fund for this remarkable support to the health sector in the region.
He gave an assurance to the Fund that the beneficiary health facilities would utilise the motorbikes for their intended purpose, thereby improving healthcare delivery.
Mr. John also commended the health workers, especially those serving rural communities, for their dedication and urged them to ensure the longevity of the motorbikes through proper maintenance.
The Regional Director of Health, Chrysantus Kubio, upon receiving the motorbikes from the Minister on behalf of the beneficiary districts, also commended the Global Fund for the intervention and further highlighted that the machines will go a long way to support the delivery of quality healthcare.
Meanwhile, the motorbikes are designed to enhance community access and fortify health worker mobility, ultimately leading to more effective healthcare delivery.
