The Northern Regional Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of the Chief of Yidani, Naa Ntimla Nwenisim, and his son, Ntimla Bilaga, at Yidani in the Gushegu municipality.
Police on August 14, 2026, received information that three unidentified armed men had attacked the residence of the Chief and shot him and his son. Consequently, some police personnel were immediately deployed to the community to secure the area and commenced investigations.
The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, in a statement said preliminary investigations has revealed that the assailants entered the compound and demanded to be directed to the Chief’s room.
He added when their demand was refused, they fired a shot into the roof of a nearby room before proceeding to the Chief’s room, where they forcibly gained entry and shot the Chief and his son.
Police recovered five empty BB cartridges from the scene and secured them as exhibits. The bodies were subsequently conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for preservation and post-mortem examination.
Mr. Lavoe stated a post-mortem examination was conducted on Monday, August 17, 2026, by a Pathologist at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Following the incident, the Inspector General of Police deployed a special operations team from the National Police Headquarters to assist the investigative processes amidst heightened security operations within the Yidani community and its adjoining villages.
According to the commander, the verbal cause of death indicated that both deceased persons suffered multiple injuries consistent with shotgun assault and died from severe injuries and haemorrhagic shock.
Acting on intelligence, the police on August 26, arrested the suspects, Majejiba Magne, aged 25, and Haruna Nlegle, aged 34, on their way from Dombine in the Gushegu municipality towards Chereponi in the North East Region.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, had earlier led the Regional Security Council to visit the community to engage the bereaved family and residents and to reassure them of the commitment of the security agencies to ensuring justice is served.
