The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the opening of nominations today Wednesday, May 31, 2023, to elect a Parliamentary candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Assin North constituency in the Central Region.

The conduct of the party’s internal elections comes on the back of a declaration by Parliament that the Assin North Parliamentary seat has become vacant after the Supreme Court on May 17, 2023, ruled that the election James Gyakye Quayson as Member of Parliament for the area was null and void.

The apex Court in a unanimous decision, ordered Parliament to expunge the name of the embattled James Gyakye Quayson from its records as the Member of Parliament for the Assin North constituency.

Consequently, General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, in a statement on Tuesday, May 30, said that the nomination forms will be available at the Constituency Party Office for purchase and will close on Thursday, June 1.

The New Patriotic Party is expected to organized its Parliamentary primaries on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also announced its resolution to maintain Mr. James Gyakye Quayson to ran for the by-election.
