The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, hailing her as a symbol of courage, strength, and the enduring resilience of Ghanaian women.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP expressed deep sadness over her passing, describing it as the loss of a national icon who dedicated her life to advancing women’s empowerment and driving social transformation.
“The late Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings, Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement and Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, embodied the strength and determination of Ghanaian women, particularly in political leadership and socio-economic progress,” the statement noted.
The party praised her lifelong commitment to gender equality and social justice, acknowledging her key role in the formulation of groundbreaking initiatives such as the Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111) and the inclusion of gender equality provisions in the 1992 Constitution.
Describing her as “a true trailblazer in the struggle for women’s emancipation,” the NPP said her vision and advocacy had left an indelible mark on Ghana’s history and would continue to inspire future generations.
“Ghana has lost a mother and a political giant whose leadership, conviction, and service to the nation will forever be remembered,” the statement added.
The party extended its condolences to the Rawlings family and the entire nation, mourning the loss of “an illustrious daughter of Ghana.”
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was widely celebrated for her pioneering work in promoting women’s rights and championing social change across the country.
