The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has cut sod for the construction of a boys dormitory and kitchen facilities at the Nyohani Children’s Home in Tamale in the Northern Region. The Church has also donated large quantity of assorted food items to the home for the wellbeing of the children.

The gesture is in line with this year’s “Let Your Light Shine” campaign spearheaded by the church across several countries and communities to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged and vulnerable families in society.

In his remarks during a short sod-cutting ceremony last Thursday, November 30, Elder S. Gifford Nielsen, General Authority Seventy and President of the Africa West Area of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint said the church engages in humanitarian activities around the world.

He disclosed members of the church throughout the world willfully made personal donations for the projects to come fruition, stressing this effort is in line with their financial obligations to bless the children of God.

“They [donors] don’t desire recognition. We have a lot of people say thank you very much and that is most appreciative but we’re not looking for recognition, we just want to do things that are good and I can tell you today that this is something good” he indicated.

Elder Nielson further admonished all and sundry to share love and hope with their neighbors and show faith by following the Lord and be obedient of his commandment.

“This work is not easy work, we face many challenges, it is difficult and it is tough but when you come together with likeminded people, they will do miraculous things and that is what is happening here today” he said, stressing the goal of the church is to join together with others to help lift those in need.

Maintenance

The President of the Africa West Area in remarks also urged managers of the home and the local authorities to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities upon its completion.

“The buildings will be symbols of hope, symbols of opportunities and excellence for all those who will use and benefit from them. I also challenge all of us here especially our leaders as we construct these buildings, they keep them nice” he appealed.

For her part, the Supervisor of the orphanage, Madam Sarah Sulemana thanked the leadership and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She indicated the readiness of management of the facility to share ideas with partners in order to enhance the wellbeing of the pupils and the institution.

“The Tamale children’s home is committed to raise the quality of life of every child under our care. We want every child regardless of their vulnerability to be raised or brought up in a way that they will impact on the society and our task is to make this possible” she posited.

Meanwhile, the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Sule Salifu, in his message delivered on his behalf commended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their benevolence and heeding to the clarion call of the people.

He said the assembly will continue to collaborate with the Church on issues of mutual benefits to mitigate the impoverishment of less privileged in society.
