Former Health Minister Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye has emerged as the new Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following a convincing win in the party’s regional executive elections held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Dr Okoe-Boye secured 490 votes in the contest, comfortably beating his closest contender, Alfred Boye, who obtained 172 votes. The result gave Dr Okoe-Boye a commanding 318-vote lead.
His election comes as the NPP works to restore its influence in the Greater Accra Region following a disappointing performance in the 2024 general elections.
Before the 2024 polls, the NPP controlled 14 of the region’s 34 parliamentary constituencies. However, the party suffered significant losses during the election, retaining just five seats.
The outcome has intensified pressure on the party to strengthen its grassroots structures, improve voter engagement and develop a more effective strategy for winning back constituencies ahead of the 2028 general elections.
As the newly elected regional chairman, Dr Okoe-Boye is expected to play a central role in that rebuilding effort. He will work closely with constituency executives and other party stakeholders to reorganise the party’s structures and boost its presence across the region.
The regional chairman also serves as a key link between the party’s national leadership and constituency structures, with responsibility for coordinating grassroots activities, mobilising supporters and implementing decisions of the party.
With his decisive victory, Dr Okoe-Boye now has a strong mandate to lead the NPP’s efforts to rebuild in Greater Accra, reclaim parliamentary seats lost in 2024 and broaden the party’s support ahead of the 2028 elections.
