The Member of Parliament (MP) for Savelugu, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz has fulfilled another campaign promise to her constituents with the commissioning of grinding mills for six communities and a mechanised borehole.
During the 2024 campaign, several underserved communities in the Savelugu constituency appealed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate as she then was for the grinding mills among others.
Women in these communities use economic hours daily to travel several kilometers in search of grinding machines to mill their cereals and grains.
This, therefore made the intervention critical to mitigate the suffering of the people and enhance the socioeconomic livelihood of the people.
The lawmaker last Wednesday, 19th August, 2026, at Dipali, Gushei, Nabogu, Tibali, Yemo and Nayilifong in Savelugu township with several others yet to be completed before commissioning.
Additionally, the MP also handed over a mechanized borehole to the people of Nabogu as part of her clean water initiative.
Some community members particularly women who spoke in an interview commended the MP for fulfilling her campaign promises.
The Chief of Dipali, Naa Alhassan in his remarks thanked the MP immensely for addressing the critical needs of his subjects.
He said the NPP legislator is a person who always fulfill her promises.
”Before the election, Hajia Fatahiya told us that she was going to fix our road whether we were going to vote for her or not. Today, I’m happy because the road is motorable.
”She also promised to get the grinding mill for the women in this community, and today she is here to deliver that. What can we say than to thank you immensely—our prayers will continue to be with you”, he stated.
Meanwhile, the communities have been tasked to set up management committees to oversee the adequate maintenance and sustainability of the facilities.
The committees are expected to set out the service charges in order to raise revenue to pay electricity bills and save funds for maintenance.
The Chief of Tibali, Naa Abukari, for his part, said the MP has done her part, stating the community must also take full responsibility to properly manage the facility.
According to him, it is unwise for someone to make this investment free of charge for you and you expect the person to spend more to maintain it for you.
”People must be ready to pay when they bring their items, so that that money is used to keep the place running,” he emphasised.
Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz in her remarks, gave an assurance of her commitment to address the prevailing issues undermining the economic growth of the people, particularly women and the youth.
”My vision for Savelugu is therefore clear: promoting quality healthcare and education, empowering women and the girl-child, supporting the vulnerable and destitute in society, and improving access to basic amenities that enhance the quality of life of our people,” she stated.
According to her, leadership is about solving problems of communities and impacting lives positively.
The MP in her speech underscored the importance of education, particularly in rural areas where opportunities are limited.
She emphasised that education is a fundamental pillar of human progress, economic growth, and social stability, adding that it equips individuals with the skills to secure employment, fosters critical thinking, and drives innovation while reducing poverty and social inequality.
